Information on our Baptism Course
We, the parish of Dunshaughlin and Culmullen, rejoice with you and your family on the birth of your child, and welcome you to the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism. Baptism is the first step of your child’s journey to God. During the celebration, you will be promising to bring up your child in the knowledge of God as a loving Father. You are making your child part of the wide Christian family, and this is why the link with the parish and the rest of the Church is so important before, during and after the celebration of Baptism.
In our Parish, Baptisms take place in either Dunshaughlin or Culmullen Church on Saturdays or Sundays at 2.30p.m. – subject to confirmation with Fr. Clavin, Fr Browne, or the parish office on 01-8259114.
Before the Baptism takes place and before booking an actual date, parents are requested to attend a preparatory talk. This talk takes just an hour and is delivered by two lay facilitators from the Baptism Team. These talks take place on the 3rd Wednesday of every month and the contact for booking a place is 086-8412260. There are many benefits to be derived from this talk but mainly it is an opportunity for parents to focus on the reason why they are getting their child baptized and the responsibility that goes along with this.
Christening day can be busy with baby, family and friends so this talk affords both parents a quiet time to prepare for their baby’s welcome into the Christian Faith. Forms are filled on that night – which helps a lot for the Christening day and for first-time parents, an explanation of the ceremony and symbolism’s make the day more meaningful. There is also the added benefit of meeting with other young parents whose children will be part of our very supportive community. For newcomers to the area, information regarding activities for children and parents is available on the night.
Like all good meetings, we complete the evening with a cuppa’ and a chat.
