About Dunshaughlin Foroige Youth Club
The Club began in September 2005 and is made up of members from the Dunshaughlin, Culmullen, Batterstown, Skyrne and Kiltale areas. Membership is €15 per year and nightly subscription to pay for the hall and subsidise club outings is €2. Membership is open to 12 to 18 year-olds. We began with 29 members, but in 2007 we had an increase in membership to 60 young people. Due to the increasing numbers, this year we hoped to take on First Year students into a new Junior Club and move last year’s Junior Group to an Intermediate Club. Numbers were slow joining the Junior Club, however, and in October 2009 we merged the two groups into one Intermediate club with 44 members. The Club meets every Friday night (during school term) in the Pitch and Putt club Dunshaughlin from 8pm to 9.30pm.
We run a small shop on club nights, which is funded by the members to cover costs. The members elect a committee to run the Club and 15 Adult Leaders, with the help of parents and Club Leader Michael Nolan, supervise and mentor the committee members on a rota basis. After a short meeting the planning of Recreational, Social, Cultural and Educational activities takes place. We usually finish off our evenings with a Fun Game.
The Senior Club, with 30 older members, meets separately from 8.30 to 10pm on Friday nights in a new 'Foroige Youth Cafe'. They are supervised by a separate committee under the leadership of Barry Molloy. The Senior Club moved from temporary accommodation in St. Patrick’s Hall to the new Pastoral Centre in the village on Friday 18th December. The members are delighted with the new venue as it gives them the option of running different activities on the same night for different interest groups by using the Coffee Dock, Board Room, Conference Room and specially designed Youth Room, all at the same time. Both Clubs are affiliated to the national body of Foroige and Club Leaders, Michael Nolan and Barry Molloy, participate in monthly meetings at the Meath District Council
For Further information on Foroige in Dunshaughlin or in the County please contact Michael Nolan on 087 – 6462914 or check out our website http://community.meath.ie/dunshaughlinforoige
