St Seachnall's N.S.

St. Seachnall’s National School is located on the Dublin side of Dunshaughlin, close to the local Catholic Church and Meath County Council Library. The school is under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Meath, caters for children from 4 to 12 years and teaches the curriculum as laid down by the Department of Education and Science.

Subjects provided are English, Irish, Mathematics, Social Environmental and Scientific Education (History, Geography, Science), Visual Arts, Physical Education, Music SPHE (Social personal and health Education) and Religion. The school also provides Drama classes, annual Gaelic Football and Soccer leagues, athletics etc. Many pupils attend classes run by various groups in the nearby St. Patrick’s Hall after school, e.g Irish dancing, ballet, gymnastics.

The school has over 420 pupils with 16 mainstream classes, three Learning Support Teachers and Principal. The school also has a Centre for European Schooling, which caters for the educational entitlements of children whose parents are based at the EU Food and Veterinary headquarters in Grange, Dunsany. These children attend mainstream classes for most of the school day and learn their mother tongue, a second language and English in the Centre. Ten teachers are employed in the Centre, which was officially opened by Mr. Noel Dempsey, T.D., Minister for Education and Science in June 2003.


The school has a very active Parents’ Association and the current Chairperson is Sandra Traynor. The Association runs an annual Book Fair, Fun/Sports’ Day, Pupils’ Insurance Scheme, First Communion Party and operates the school’s Book Rental Scheme from Third to Sixth class.

Enrolment: Forms are available from the school Secretary Maureen Doherty. Please note that children wishing to enrol in Junior Infants must be at least four years old on May 31st in the year of enrolment.

School Hours:
School commences at 9:20 a.m. and classes finish at 3:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. for Junior and Senior Infants)
